Maintaining & Improving

While many projects in the state parks and forests are funded and supported by foundations created to support a single park, the statewide West Virginia State Parks Foundation has provided funding and support for projects in parks that don't have their own foundation. This page provides information about some of the projects that have been able to take place across the state – all thanks to the generosity of donors.

A History of Success

Our combined Foundations have been making a difference for West Virginia State Parks since the late 1980’s. During that time park supporting foundations have contributed millions of dollars in project funding and volunteer labor to our state parks, forests, and rail trails. The members of our foundations work hard to find new and innovative ways to raise money to support our parks, assist park staff with major tasks, and direct attention toward park projects that benefit local communities.

Did You Know?

In a recent Economic Impact Study conducted by the Institute for Service Research, for every $1 of general tax revenue provided to the park system, $18.54, on average, was generated in fresh money to our state and communities – that would not be there if not for the operation of West Virginia State Parks and Forests.
